I stand in front of my closet most mornings weighing one question: what shoes can I wear from the morning coffee run to a six-hour workday without planning a heel swap? For me, the answer has been Tieks for years.
Tieks by Gavrieli ballet flats are certainly beautiful. But why are women so obsessed with these foldable ballet flats? I originally wrote about Tieks in 2016. A decade later, I wanted to update this review — how have they held up, and am I still as convinced?

Tieks call themselves “the most versatile designer flats in the world.” Each pair is crafted from fine leather or textiles. It takes 3 days and over 150 steps to make a single pair. They are built to be durable yet flexible enough to fold into a purse.
I got my first pair in 2015 after following the brand for a few years. The attraction was immediate — I bought a second pair less than a month later. Fast forward to now and I own dozens of pairs across colors and prints.
An Honest Tieks Review
Tieks currently start at $205 for women’s sizes. That is a lot for flats, no question. But after years of spending long hours on my feet, I am willing to invest in shoes that do not leave red marks or blisters by mid-afternoon. For me, Tieks are those shoes.
Some say they need breaking in. Every pair I have tried has been comfortable straight out of the box.
The unboxing experience
Tieks ship via USPS Priority Mail and usually arrive within days. The packaging is a Tiek Blue box wrapped with an elastic flower bow — the flowers themselves are genuinely collectible. In recent years, Tieks has added customized box toppers for certain styles.
Inside the box you find a care guide, two small pouches (one elasticized storage bag and one fold-out tote for your heels), and a handwritten thank-you note from their Los Angeles-based team.

The insole is hand-stitched full-grain leather. It gets softer over time, and some discoloration is normal. The pairs I wear most — Cardinal Red and Fuchsia — have noticeably darker insoles now. I think the heat here in Florida plays a role.
I started using Odor-Eaters ultra-thin inserts about a year ago and really prefer this method. No adhesive, so they slide easily between different shoes.

The Snake Collection features hand-painted Italian leathers that mimic snake scales. Since they are hand-painted, no two pairs look exactly alike. My Electric Snake pair has metallics, pink, aqua, and black — the print placement on mine is particularly striking.
Every pair has a cushioned, non-elasticized back (so fewer heel blisters) and Tiek Blue non-skid rubber soles with a signature stripe down each heel. The blue matches every color I own, which never ceases to impress me.
Sizing and fit
Tieks have a cushioned instep that molds to your foot. They run true-to-size. Tieks suggests sizing down if you are a half-size, unless you have wide feet. I am an 8.5 or 9, and the size 9 fits me perfectly.

Arch support and bunions
No, Tieks do not offer much arch support. If you have Plantar Fasciitis or serious arch issues, these might not be your best option — though some people add aftermarket insoles with good results.
As for bunions: it depends on foot shape and placement. My mother has a fairly significant bunion and Tieks are the only flats she can wear comfortably, thanks to the stretchable elastic at the back.
How to style them
Tieks are some of the most versatile shoes in my closet. I wear them with shorts for weekends, jeans and a simple tee or blouse for workdays, and they dress up nicely with skirts and dresses too.
If you have wondered whether flats work at formal events — they do. Wear them from the start or swap out your heels later in the evening. Tieks handle both scenarios without looking casual.

I rotate through my collection regularly, so wear is spread across many pairs. I did replace a second pair of Cardinal Red and Fuchsia after about 3 years of heavy use. But once I learned basic maintenance — cleaning the leather and using the right polish for scuffs — none of my other pairs have needed replacing.
The verdict
At $205, Tieks sit in splurge territory. For comparison, Rothy’s ballet flats start around $149 and Vivobarefoot options run $130-$160 — neither offers the same handcrafted leather construction or fold-into-your-purse portability.
In my opinion, Tieks are worth the price tag. The return and exchange policy means you are not risking much by trying them on at home. Just do not wear them outside before deciding — they need to be in original condition to return or exchange.
Style Math
$205 ÷ 100 wears = $2.05 per wear. For a shoe I grab most mornings, that is a solid number.
